A passion project is a choice project about something you enjoy doing.
Read all of the information below, ask me any questions, and fill out this Google Form when you decide which option you want to do.
Program: Unruly Splats (check the whiteboard or your Music Google Classroom for the login information)
Instructions: Choose one of the songs below and recreate it on Unruly Splats.
What I'm looking for:
Your song has been recreated on Splats and the notes and timing are accurate.
You presented your song to the class.
You explained what was tricky, what you learned, and what you're proud of.
Program: Chrome Music Lab Song Maker
Instructions: Make a song for the class to play Boomwhackers along with on Chrome Music Lab Song Maker.
Each colour and note matches a Boomwhacker.
It has to be at least one minute long. Here's an online timer to help you plan it out.
It needs layers! There should not be one note playing by itself. (Hint: two notes that touch don't sound good together. Skip a note to make it sound better. For example, D and E don't sound great together, but D and F is *chef's kiss*)
If you don't want to create your own song, you can try and recreate your favourite song (as long as it's appropriate for school)
What I'm looking for:
You created a totally original song with interesting sounds OR your version of a real song sounds just like it!
The notes you chose match Boomwhacker colors really well, and you planned them carefully.
The beat and timing are right on! Everything lines up with the rhythm.
During the performance, you explained my project clearly and confidently. You showed how it works and what you did.
IMPORTANT LINKS:
Program: Canva or on paper
Instructions: Make a poster for your favourite Canadian musician either in Canva or on an 11 x 17 paper (see Mrs. Garrett to get one). Pretend they are coming to Halifax on a made-up date. You're going to present your poster and tell us a little about your artist (who they are, what part of Canada they're from, what genre of music they play, and something important about their career).
What I'm looking for:
Your poster is super eye-catching, creative, and fits the style of the musician’s genre (e.g., bright colors and bold fonts for pop, dark and moody for rock)
You used colors, images, and fonts in a way that grabs attention and shows effort.
You clearly explained: who your musician is, what part of Canada they’re from, their genre, and something important about their career.
You shared what you learned, what was tricky, and what you're proud of.
IMPORTANT LINKS:
How to send it to Mrs. Garrett
Has to be approved by Mrs. Garrett before you begin.
You can use any programs we've used in class or any Google programs (Docs, Slides, etc.)
Examples:
A presentation about a musician or music from the country/place you're from.
An original song (digital or with instruments)
A pamphlet or presentation about a genre of music.
If you have an idea that isn't listed here, fill out this Google Form to tell me more about it and get it approved.
